    DATE POSITION TO BE FILLED:    As Soon As Possible
    HOURS & DAYS OF WORK:           Monday 8:00a to 5:00p Tuesday – Friday 8:00a - 4:00p
                                                         Trials & regular court proceedings may require additional time
    LOCATION OF POSITION:              Elkhart Courts Building, Elkhart
    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:             None
    Responsible for preserving a record of court proceedings, marking and maintaining evidence submitted to the Court, preparing court orders and opinions, producing accurate and legible transcripts, making entries from court proceedings on the Chronological Case Summary (CCS) and prepare sentencing orders.              
  • High school graduate or G.E.D.
  • Completion of specialized training in court reporting
  • Demonstrable knowledge and proficiency in the use of stenograph and word processing systems and a high level of proficiency and accuracy in transcribing court activities
  • Prefer one to three years active experience as court reporter, in preparing verbatim records, or in situation involving and acquiring knowledge of legal terminology
  • Pre-employment background check and drug test

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required - Stenographer/Voice Writer Court Reporter: Candidates must meet one of three minimum professional standards to be considered eligible for hire: (1) Graduation from a court reporting school approved by either the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or the National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA), or (2) Successful completion of the Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) examination administered by the NCRA, or (3) Successful completion of the Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) examination administered by the NVRA.
