District Court Judge James C Stecker is accepting applications for the position of Official Court Reporter.  Official Court Reporters must be competent in the making, preserving, transcribing and delivery of a verbatim record of trials and other proceedings through the use of machine shorthand (stenographic court reporter).  An Official Court Reporter is under the direct supervision of the judge and is an at-will employee who is expected to perform such duties as may be necessary, assigned and directed by the judge.

Competence must be demonstrated by meeting the testing requirements as set out in the Nebraska Supreme Court Rules regarding Court Reporting Personnel. Official Court Reporters are eligible for a salary increase at the end of the provisional period. Official Court Reporters may also engage in freelance reporting activities (e.g., depositions, mental health hearings, grand jury investigation) and are entitled to additional compensation for preparing bills of exceptions and transcriptions.

Official Court Reporters who would like to work for the Nebraska Judicial Branch and are not interested in doing freelance court reporting are given the option of having the Judicial Branch purchase and keep updated all of their equipment and software. For stenographic official court reporters, this includes providing you with a laptop, docking station, monitor(s), steno machine, software (Eclipse by Advantage Software or Case CATalyst by Stenograph, LLC), microphone and/or handheld device for making a backup digital audio recording of court proceedings, and secure cloud backup storage.

Immediate Opening. Position is open until filled.  Please send resume, references and certification(s) to:
